Getting Organised for Winter in the Kitchen

It truly feels like Winter is upon us now. All this cold weather means its time to start cooking nice warm soups and stews, and not so many salads or BBQs. There are a few changes we can make around the kitchen to make life easier.

Rethink Your Storage

Keep your slow cooker or casserole pot in an easier to access home for the winter, even out on the counter if you use it that often and have the space. Just because it gradually migrated to the back of the bottom cupboard during Summer doesn’t mean it has to keep going back there while you’re using it regularly.

Meal planning

Pull out all those recipes for stews, curries and casseroles and start including them in your meal plans. Stock up on tinned soup in the pantry or make a big batch of fresh soup and freeze it in meal sized portions. You may be thinking, but I don’t have a meal plan! Well this is a great time to give it a try, on those cold dreary weekends when you just want to curl up with a movie, instead of heading out to the supermarket, you could pull out some cookbooks or your favourite recipe website on the couch with a cuppa and order your groceries online (see my post about getting started here).

These are just a couple of tips to get you thinking about how you use your kitchen in Winter versus the warmer months.
